Craig Rowe, head of
community engagement at Monash South Africa, addressed students on Wednesday, on
the new Diploma under development in order to steer change in the country.
Universities and
government have come together to discuss the issue of numerous amounts of
community development practitioners in the field, without qualification or
standardisation that can be recognised. Most of these practitioners excel in
their field, but cannot be acknowledged due to their qualification being
unrecognised, and the lack of resources and lack of development approach. Rowe
informs students on this diploma, and how it will benefit the nation.
Monash is a private
university, but engages with factors in the community, along with the
government. Students at Monash are all currently studying for degrees in their
field of choice. Robin Jones, a student at Monash, finds the implementation of
a diploma at the university to be one that is of the best interest to people in
the community, considering how the government trends to neglect these
factors.
Monash plans on implementing
the diploma courses in 2017.
